A new view of the portfolio

LOS ANGELES — Segal Industries is publishing an expanded introduction to Segal Media, bringing its programs and engineering priorities into a connected public overview. The introduction is designed for readers moving from a broad area of interest to a specific technical discussion. The media introduction follows a production from the audience experience to the equipment and control behind it. A creative direction has to become a sequence that people can rehearse and operate in a real venue. The overview brings Productions, Stagecraft and Showrunner into one account while explaining what each contributes. It keeps the venue and the production team present throughout the discussion instead of treating technical planning as a later addition.

The work inside the division

Segal Productions connects narrative, audience movement and spatial design in the development of a live experience. Stagecraft covers lighting, sound, projection, effects, and structure, with power, rigging, and safety. Showrunner authors cues and coordinates the systems in a production.

The introduction uses the division’s development sequence to organize that work: develop the creative treatment and audience journey; coordinate audio, lighting, video, and cue interfaces; and plan installation, rehearsal, operation, and recovery. The intended output is a creative and technical production plan.

The interfaces around the system

The scope connects with Segal Electronics to specify display, camera, network, power, and control-panel interfaces for the proposed installation. The scope connects with Segal Compute to plan content distribution, playback supervision, control networking, and recovery from system interruptions. The scope connects with Segal Development to coordinate audience circulation, temporary structures, access, and venue infrastructure constraints.

Proposed deliverables include a creative treatment describing the audience experience and spatial design; equipment, control and interface requirements for the proposed production; an installation and rehearsal plan with defined recovery and safe-state behavior. These establish a practical basis for discussing the work and the evidence it should produce.

Beginning a technical conversation

Share the creative brief, venue, audience, schedule and technical requirements to establish a production-development scope. Venue constraints, technical review, permits and rehearsal requirements shape the agreed production plan.

The published introduction links to the Segal Media program directory and its individual system descriptions. Readers can use those pages to identify the relevant scope, then bring the requirements of their own project into the discussion. This publication introduces the portfolio and its development questions; project-specific specifications and responsibilities are established through the applicable review.
